Privacy Policy

Lesson Recorder is built to keep your recordings private. This policy explains what the app collects, what it deliberately does not collect, and the limited cases where data leaves your device.

The short version

• Your audio recordings never leave your device.
• Transcription happens entirely on your device using Apple’s on-device speech recognition.
• We don’t ask for your name, email, or an account to use the app.
• We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising.

Audio and transcripts

Recordings are captured and stored only on your device. Speech-to-text transcription is performed on-device — your audio is never uploaded to us or to any third party.

When you ask Lesson Recorder to generate highlights for a lesson, the textof that transcript (not the audio) is sent to our backend, which uses OpenAI’s API to extract the key moments. We don’t store the transcript text after the highlights are returned, and it is not used to train models.

Information we process

• Anonymous device identifier. The app generates a random identifier to associate your subscription and monthly usage limits with your device. It is not linked to your real-world identity.
• Usage and subscription state.We keep a count of how many highlight requests you’ve made (to enforce plan limits) and your subscription status, keyed to the anonymous identifier above.
• Purchase verification. Subscriptions are handled by Apple. We verify your purchase with Apple to unlock features; we never see your payment details.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of providers to run the service:

• OpenAI — generates highlights from transcript text.
• Apple — processes and verifies in-app purchases.
• Vercel and Upstash — host our backend and store usage/subscription state.

Data retention and deletion

Recordings and transcripts live on your device and are removed when you delete them or remove the app. You can request deletion of the usage/subscription data associated with your anonymous identifier from within the app, or by contacting us at privacy@lessonrecorder.app.

Children

Lesson Recorder is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
